Abstract

Introduction: Respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and tuberculosis represent a major global public health burden and significantly impact patients' quality of life. Objective: To determine the level of quality of life in hospitalized patients with respiratory diseases in the Adult and Adolescent Clinic Service of a public hospital in San Gil, Colombia. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 45 hospitalized patients diagnosed with respiratory diseases. The Saint George’s Respiratory Questionnaire and the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire were used. Descriptive statistics were applied using SPSS version 24. Results: COPD was the most frequent condition, affecting 42.2% of participants. A low quality of life was observed in 68.1% of the sample. The most common symptom reported was persistent cough (40%). Most participants were male (53.3%) with a mean age of 79 years.

Conclusions: Most hospitalized patients with respiratory diseases reported a low quality of life, particularly those with COPD. Strengthening comprehensive care strategies is essential to improve their functional status and overall well-being.
