Objective: To determine the association between hypoalbuminemia and the severity of preeclampsia in pregnant women treated at the Belén Hospital of Trujillo during 2024.
Methods: An analytical retrospective study was conducted in 78 pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia. Participants were classified according to the presence or absence of hypoalbuminemia. Associations were assessed using the chi-square test, and relative risk (RR) with a 95% confidence interval was calculated.
Results: Renal insufficiency and anemia were significantly more frequent in women with severe preeclampsia (p<0.05). The frequency of severe preeclampsia was 31% among pregnant women with hypoalbuminemia and 10% among those without hypoalbuminemia. A significant association was observed between hypoalbuminemia and severe preeclampsia (RR=3.5; 95% CI: 1.7–5.9; p=0.018).
Conclusion: Hypoalbuminemia was significantly associated with increased severity of preeclampsia in pregnant women.
