Factors associated with adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus treated at the Santa María del Socorro Hospital, Ica, 2026

Objective: To identify the factors associated with treatment adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at Hospital Santa María del Socorro, Ica, 2026. Materials and Methods: This quantitative study with an observational, analytical, and cross-sectional design evaluated 108 patients with DM2 using face-to-face surveys and the Morisky scale. Results: Patients with type 2 diabetes at Hospital Santa María del Socorro were predominantly male (66.7%) and older adults (median age 70 years) with family support (68.5%) and university education (37.0%). Despite this profile, adherence was predominantly moderate (59.3%) and low (35.2%), with only 5.6% exhibiting high adherence. Since there was no significant association with age (p=0.500) or other factors (p>0.05), it is concluded that adherence depends on personal experience rather than sociodemographic profile. Conclusions: The results show that treatment adherence was primarily at a moderate level (59.3%), and that demographic and social factors were not significantly associated with it (p>0.05). This reflects that adherence to diabetes treatment depends not only on age, occupation, or family support, but also on each patient's personal experience and daily commitment to their health.
